Fun at Roadworks

News

We had fun showing off and selling some of our older work and lots of newer work at Roadworks yesterday. The steamroller whistle kept us on our feet each time it announced itself. It was a beautiful day, not too cold, not too windy — just perfect for the event. Here are some pictures. Look for us next at Arc Gallery and Studios for Open Studios October 30, 31 & November 1st.

I will have a small table at the annual San Francisco Center for the Book Holiday Fair. I’ll have letterpress Christmas Cards, Coaster (which make great stocking stuffers), handbound blank books, and lots of CAT images plus a dog and a sheep available for you or your favorite loved one.

Come on out and check it all out.

the press in action

News

here are some shots from the making of last year’s 3 color christmas cards. I did a reductive linoleum cut in 3 colors – grey blue for snowflakes which I also did blind to get white on white, red for the scarves and then black for the outlines and the cats. Then inside text was red. A total of 4 passes through the press. I made about 100 of these and send out over 70. There are a few left for sale as cards and as flat images which I have framed.

new press, new site

News

about 2 weeks ago I acquired my very own vandercook printing press. the press is a Universal 1 with an adjustable bed and automatic wash up. The press was delivered and then I went on vacation.

I was finally able to clean it up this past weekend – I spent about 4 hours cleaning up all the grime, old ink and dust out of the press and then oiling it up. The press was sticking about midway when running along the rails but removing all the built up paper dust and oil and then relubricating it seemed to do the trick.

I am waiting for ordered ink and some other supplies before I can actually test the press out.
